Firm Principals Jeb Thornburg and Belinda Thornburg have been collaborating in their work and in their lives for over 20 years; formalizing their design collaboration as Indigo | Architecture + Interiors in 1999. Trained as architect and interior designer respectively, they are loathe to be bound to the stereotypes of these roles as they feel their collective work is an integral weaving of the two disciplines; not whole, one without the other. The mainstay of their Bainbridge Island, WA (near Seattle, yes it is a real island) based practice is custom single family residential design. Often asked to characterize their "style" in a single word, they say, "situational. "Whether we are working on a Spanish Hacienda on the Central Coast of California, a turn of the century farmhouse remodel on a rural Bainbridge Island site or doing a very modern urban townhouse our work is rooted in its context.”

Their infectious enthusiasm has lead them to broader channels as well; including the design of a rooftop park for the Seattle Based Starbucks Coffee Company, a 30,000sf sports film distribution and production company headquarters in California, and the rehabilitation of a historic WWI brick warehouse into loft living spaces. Possessing a bit of a “we think we can do better than that” attitude about mainstream speculative residential offerings they are currently developing some of their own “not so big houses.”
