This large family compound draws its name from the family's rich heritage and enthusiasm for fishing and all manner of outdoor pursuits. All site runoff is collected and cleaned in a series of cascading streams and ponds and reused for landscape irrigation and as a fly-casting pond. The curvaceous roof forms are made with massive exposed glue laminated wood ribs; metaphorically, the ribbed construction of traditional wood boat hulls, or maybe Jonah’s view from inside the whale. The roof skin itself is clad in interlocking zinc “scales.” The extensive outdoor entertaining areas are focused around a series of indoor and outdoor swimming pools, built as natural swimming holes. Substantial repatriating of the natural landscape with indigenous species will ultimately veil much of the built structures from view.
