This remodel/addition project is driven by the desire to maintain the charm and scale of the existing historic house and handsome landscaping, while at the same time enlarge the living spaces sufficiently to accommodate the owners family life. The challenges to achieve this end are both technical and aesthetic.

For us the most intriguing solution lies in being able to find and enhance the spirit of the existing house in, without specifically "copying" that which is original. The ability to compliment, rather than imitate, offers the opportunity for new visual and experiential pleasures, delights, and surprises; enhancing what is already a fine home. The proposed plan adds a 3rd "pavilion", replacing the existing garage. The new pavilion includes a larger garage with living space above in a steeply dormered story. A relic like stone walled loggia connects new and old, further blurring the line between past and present.
