Long House

#New Construction

Sited with generous glass looking to ever-evolving views along a busy waterway, this house finds its roots in the traditional Native American long houses of the northwest tribes; simple in its rectangular plan, but rich in the details of the layered joinery of its oversized wood members. On its opposite busy road side, its long shoulder, an insulated concrete mass wall, provides a screen of privacy and protection for the home life within. To be occupied by a family with multi-generational ties to the northwest timber industry, we have tried to include acknowledgement of the spirit of the great northwest forests by including dramatic groups of tall sinewy tree-like columns. We hope this home of the woods finds its place in the hearts of the future generations of this truly northwest family.
